Serving God through – Community
Winters in Tallahassee can be cold, and many of our local homeless do not have proper cold weather clothing. Hats for the Homeless is an ongoing ministry throughout the year. Hats and scarves are knitted or crocheted, and then donated to those in need. During winter 2011-12 seventy hat/scarf sets were given to our guests at the Community Dinner on Christmas Day, and fifty items were taken to The Shelter in November 2011 when the first cold spell arrived.
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. in the Conference Room Many will continue to work on the project at home over the summer, and meetings will then resume on Tuesday, September 11, 2012.
Plenty of donated yarn is available, so bring your hooks or needles only. Or if you would like to work at home only, our focus this year will be on darker colored items suitable for the male homeless population. Contact Beth Curry if you already know how to knit or crochet and would like to help teach others, or if you would like a pattern.
Completed items may be left in the bin marked Hats for the Homeless, which is located in the Welcome Center. For those working on this project, free yarn is also available in the same bin.
How can you serve?
- Learn how to knit or crochet a hat or scarf at our monthly meeting (second Tuesday of the month – September through May)
