Serving God Through – Community
In April 2011 Trinity members had the privilege of working with four homeless veterans from Veterans Village. Together we built the four raised beds which make our Community Garden. The work done that day could never have been completed without the hard work of these men. The Health Wellness Team’s desire was to give back to the individuals who gave so much to Trinity that day in April and who have given so much for our country in previous years. The pilot Veteran’s Village “Becoming Fit Veterans” project was born from this relationship.
In Fall 2011 members of the Health Wellness Team worked in conjunction with students from FSU to help seven homeless vets improve their overall health and wellness. The Team met weekly with the veterans at Veteran’s Village to develop individualized programs for each encompassing general health, nutrition and exercise prescription. The results were amazing! Two of the vets became so committed to their new healthy lifestyle that they both joined a local gym!
