In 1974 Fr. William Meninger, internationally known Trappist monk, priest and retreat leader, began teaching contemplative prayer according to The Cloud of Unknowing and today takes a limited time each year from his monastic life to travel the world and teach contemplative prayer.
In February 2011 Fr.William traveled to Tallahassee to present a series of workshops and lectures including Julian of Norwich, the Enneagram, the Christan Spiritual Journey, Centering Prayer and Forgiveness. Over 400 people attended the events.
This year he is returning to once again offer workshops in Tallahassee (watch for details in a separate flyer) and to offer a weekend retreat experience at Camp Weed that includes prayer, teaching and fellowship. The retreat will focus on deepening our understanding of contemplative prayer through examining the teachings of some of the great Christian mystics. Each of the days will include teachings and periods of Centering Prayer. Friday and Sunday will include times for conversation and sharing. Saturday will be a day of silence.
This is an ecumenical event sponsored by ten Tallahassee Catholic and Protestant churches and Contemplative Outreach of NW Florida.
