Sunday School
Sunday School, which begins at 9:45 a.m., is provided to children of all ages. Children from toddler age through preschool are grouped by age level. Once children enter kindergarten they are grouped by the grade they attend in school. Live B.I.G., a scripture based curriculum
, is designed for each age level and includes age appropriate activities created to meet the various learning styles of children. Children are given the opportunity to learn through story, drama, games, class discussion, music and crafts.
An offering is collected in Sunday School each week. In general this goes to support the operating budget of the church. At times it will be used for a special mission. The fifth Sunday offering is given to the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home. Throughout the year the children’s classes will take on service projects to benefit the Tallahassee community and beyond. These projects will be announced through the bulletin and notices sent home. We hope you will support your child’s participation in these stewardship activities.
Trinity’s Teachers and Classes
Trinity’s teachers are selected because each has a special gift in working with children and families and communicating their faith with the children. Background checks are done on all of our teachers and training is also provided. Each teacher is committed to creating an environment for your child to grow in his/her faith. The teachers and classes for the current school year are:
Music
Music is an important part of the Sunday School Program. This is a relaxed time to introduce them to their faith through song and give them experience singing as a group and following a director. Children in grades 1-5 have a music time each week with Trinity’s Music Director, Mark Repasky. They sing in worship on Palm Sunday. Children in kindergarten and preschool also have a music time each week at the end of the Sunday School hour. They are led by Mary Alice Mills. This group, called the Cherub Choir, sing periodically throughout the year during Sunday worship and on Christmas Eve.
The children’s choirs, Alpha Choir (K-2) and Omega Choir (3-5), meet on Wednesday afternoon as a part of NETkids. This is a more formal choir experience. The Alpha and Omega choirs sing in worship several times during the school year. The children’s choirs also have a Christmas program, perform at their Teacher Banquet, and present a musical in the spring in addition to visiting and presenting their music to nursing homes in the community several times a year.
Summer Sunday School
Click here for an opportunity to teach summer Sunday School. During the summer our format stays the same for the preschool children but takes on a different feel for the elementary grades. Grades 1-5 meet together for an opening event and then visit various centers to explore the topic for the day. The curriculum “Live B.I.G.” continues in this different format throughout the 10 weeks of the program during the summer.
While the formal beginning of the Sunday School year is Promotion Sunday, the first Sunday after public school starts in August, children may be enrolled in Sunday School at any time during the year. On Promotion Sunday registration takes place in the first and second floor hallways. A registration form must be filled out before you leave your child with their teacher.
Supervision
Trinity’s teachers are committed to the safety of your children. Please do not leave a child in a classroom until a teacher has arrived then pick them up promptly after class. Teachers are volunteers who also have children to pick-up and most attend the 11:00 a.m. worship.
Children will only be released to an adult who has been designated on the sign in sheet which is filled out by the adult who drops them off each Sunday. Children not signed out by 10:55 a.m. will be taken to the nursery (located on the first floor) along with the sign-out clipboard. They will be supervised in the nursery by Trinity’s nursery staff and can be signed out from there.
Children may not be sent alone anywhere in the building when in Trinity’s care. We hope that you will also follow this practice when they are in your care.
