A Church with a
Heart for the City!

Helping Each Other (HEO)
HEO began in 1979 under the auspices of Trinity's United Methodist Women. It was organized to "maintain a network of lay persons to assist the pastors and congregation, through providing a supportive, caring ministry to members of Trinity United Methodist church and, when possible, to our community." With that vision, HEO was born. Since that time, HEO has been a vital part of ministry at Trinity. HEO utilizes lay volunteers in a ministry of care and encouragement to those who are recuperating, who are going through challenging times of transition, who are homebound, or who have other special needs that HEO can fill. Leah Johnston is Trinity's HEO Coordinator and she stands ready to pull together resources when help is needed. HEO can:

bullet

Provide an HEO volunteer to visit and encourage

bullet

Provide a listening ear

bullet

Help find a special resource in the community

bullet

Offer assistance during a time of crisis or transition

bullet

Bring a meal during recuperation from surgery or illness

bullet

Provide a "loan" from our inventory of health care equipment

The heart of HEO is the group of Trinity HEO volunteers who provide a variety of congregational care services. In addition to helping provide visitation to the homebound and those in nursing care, they help stock a food pantry for the needy, distribute the Upper Room and other reading materials, assist with receptions after funerals, and provide a link to members who cannot attend services through phone calls and cards. "Trinity Chefs" prepare casseroles and other foods in the church kitchen each month for bereaved or needy families. "Prayers and Squares" volunteers make very special prayer quilts which are prepared for people desiring prayer from Trinity members. When you, or a Trinity member you know, needs the services of HEO, please call Leah, Monday through Wednesday mornings, at 222-1120 or email at ljohnston@tumct.org.  (Also, if you would like to discover the joy that comes from being an HEO volunteer, please call and let HEO know!)

Who Needs a Prayer Quilt?

By now many of you are probably aware of the Prayers & Squares Ministry here at Trinity. It is a rather new ministry that combines the gift of prayer with the gift of quilt making. A wonderful group of women volunteer their time and talents to make a variety of beautiful quilts. These quilts are then available for those in need of lots of prayer, such as one having a physical or spiritual crisis. Once a quilt is requested, the quilt is made available during worship services and other Trinity events to receive prayers from our congregation. When a prayer is said, one of the tassels on the quilt is then tied. Once the quilt is full of prayers it is given to the recipient so that he or she can be covered in prayer during the crisis. The Prayers & Squares.  Ministry would like to encourage you to let us know if you or a loved one is in need of lots of prayer. Please don’t hesitate to ask for a quilt when something major is happening in your family. There are many times in our lives where we all need lots of prayer. We have quilts ready to cover you in prayer! For more information on receiving a quilt, contact Rita May at the church office 222-1120. If you would like to volunteer in making the quilts, or if you would like to donate materials or money, please contact Colleen McConnell at 445-4673 or 309-1804 . Thank you!
