Kelly Rains, Youth Director/Jordan Perry, Youth
Intern
We have just closed out an
incredibly busy summer with our youth and I have to say, they have
surprised me once again. You can't help but catch their energy and
willingness to try new things, no matter what comes their way. They
really are an amazing group of young adults with so much to offer.
Hopefully most of you were able to come to Youth Sunday on August
8th. Our youth really shined that day as they led the congregation
in all 3 worship services. I was very proud of each of them for
offering their ideas, enthusiasm, and gifts not only on that Sunday
but during all the many rehearsals leading up to the big day. Our
theme for the day was "To Move", and our theme verse was Romans
12:11 "Never be lazy in your work, but serve the Lord
enthusiastically." Without a shadow of a doubt, our youth did just
that, they served the Lord with energy and gusto just like they
always do!
And speaking of serving with enthusiasm, I have to
quickly mention three people who helped out on Youth Sunday to make
it all happen. These three servants of God are amazing, each in
their own way, and we can't thank them enough for pouring into our
youth on a regular basis with their own energy and enthusiasm. So
thank you Lisa Prasse, Brett Ingram, and Chip Collette for all the
many things you do for our youth and for this church. We could not
have done it without you!
Please, Let us Know
Would you go to the hospital
without telling your family? How about rehab or hospice? Of course
you wouldn’t. Unfortunately, that seems to be happening more and
more recently within the Trinity family. With individual privacy
laws and other liability issues, the rules have changed at hospitals
and other care facilities. Now, if you don’t let the church know
where you are, chances are the church won’t find you in the hospital
room. The ministerial staff wants to be there for you and your
family. But they can’t if they don’t know where you are. So if you,
or someone you know, is in the hospital, a rehabilitation facility,
or a hospice, please let your church family know. Please don’t leave
your “other” family in the dark. Call the church office at 222-1120
and let them know where you are.
August Musical Offerings Are
Very Special
Mark Repasky
Director of Music
Time to join up! Have you picked
a music group to join this fall? We highlighted many of the groups
in August Tidings. Here's information about some others. Please
contact me if you are interested in these groups.
Trinity Ringers
This is a very talented group of handbell ringers. Advanced music
reading skills are required and previous ringing experience is
recommended. We practice Wednesdays, 6:15-7:15 p.m. starting
September 8 in the handbell room. Ring at worship services about
once a month, September through May.
College/Career Handbells
This is also a very talented group. Ability to read music is
required. We practice Sundays, 6:15-7:15 p.m. starting September 12
in the handbell room. Ring about once a month September through
April.
Senior Handchimes
This group has made a lot of progress in their two years of
existence! They all read music, which enables them to play a lot of
pieces for fun. We practice Thursdays, 1:45-2:45 p.m. starting
September 9. Ring at worship services about once every two months,
September through May. We are a very easygoing group and enjoy one
another's company.
Broadway Review Taking Shape
About 40 minutes of music has already been planned for Trinity's
grand Broadway Review set for October 29 and 30. We are aiming for
60 minutes, so if you have been thinking about throwing your hat
into the ring, do it now by contacting either Duncan Hoehn or me.
Children will be involved, with the older NEtkids
Choir singing "Do-Re-Mi" from The Sound of Music. We are also
planning to present "So Long, Farewell" which features a few
children and youth. Our church staff will present a humorous takeoff
on the Dolly Parton tune "9 to 5". This is a must-see! The Young
Adult Ensemble from Chancel Choir is planning to present "Seasons of
Love" from Rent and "Matchmaker" from Fiddler on the Roof. We have a
husband wife team preparing "Do You Love Me?" from Fiddler on the
Roof. June Gray will present a tap dance number. She said dancing is
for all ages and she is 74! Chancel Choir will sing twice during the
show including a medley of Rodgers and Hammerstein show tunes
favorites. We expect to have about 60 performers!
We want all performers to know that final
rehearsals will be Tuesday night October 26 and Wednesday night
October 27. Everyone needs to know the shows will be Friday October
29 at 7:00 pm and Saturday October 30 at 6:30 pm. This will be
dinner theater, with a buffet meal provided both nights Cost for the
dinner and show is just $15.00! All profits go to our new "Friends
of Music" ministry at Trinity. Tickets will go on sale starting
October 6 and will be available from the church office, at Wednesday
night dinners and at the welcome center on Sundays October 17 and 24
between and after worship services.
A Story to Tell
The stained glass windows at the front of our sanctuary are
stunning! Quite often visitors to the sanctuary remark about their
beauty. That’s when we tell them the windows have a story to tell.
Do you know what that story is? We have a short pamphlet that
explains the remarkable images in these windows. It is available at
the church office. Better yet, plans are underway to present the
story of each window during three Sunday morning worship services in
the coming months. The sermon and much of the music, including a
newly composed trumpet/organ selection and a “theme of the day” hymn
will be focused on each window. September 19, at the 8:30 and 11:00
am services, the left window, which represents the Old Testament,
will be the topic of the day. Two Sundays in the future, we will
address the center window representing the New Testament and the
right window representing the Church moving forward.
GEM Car Drivers Needed
Bill Fritchman
This ministry involves driving members from the
library parking lot to the church front steps on Sunday mornings in
Trinity’s 6-passenger electric car. This is a fun and rewarding way
to serve your church. Please contact Bill Fritchman at 508-7792 if
you would be interested in becoming one of the authorized drivers of
the Trinity GEM Car.
Green Fast Food
Beth Curry, ACSM, AFAA
Green Fast Food – and I am not
talking about the moldy kind. You can now check the internet to see
if your fast food favorites are doing the right health and
environmental thing. Go to Greenopia or Green Restaurant Association
to see who is doing the best . These associations are rating the
restaurants on their environmental footprints. The GRA looks at
water efficiency, waste recycling and reduction, sustainability,
energy, disposables and chemical and pollution reduction. These can
be accessed at www.greenopia.com
or www.dinegreen.com. Check
them out.
