Serving Others

Although Sunday morning worship has always been the focal point of church life for Trinity members, the early members of the church realized that other programs could enrich and encourage the faith within the membership. To that end, various programs have been added to encourage study, enhance worship, and to support ministries in Trinity, locally in Tallahassee, and beyond Tallahassee for national, and worldwide outreach efforts.

One of the ways we serve each other is through the giving of prayer quilts. Members, or members of the community, can request a quilt for someone who is sick or someone who is going through a personal trial. Then, Prayers and Squares, a committee formed especially to produce these quilts, makes that person a special quilt. Members then say a prayer for the individual and tie a knot in the quilt. The person who receives the quilt can see the tangible results of prayer through the knots that have been tied. This is just one way that members serve each other. Click here to more examples.

Each year, Trinity members bring a brand new teddy bear with them to church and donate them to a designated group of charities on Bear Sunday. This is a great way to serve the community and bring some love to a child in need. Some of the previous recipients have been: Big Bend Hospice – bears are given to children who have recently lost a loved one. These children are very enthusiastic and appreciative; Leon County Elementary School Clinics – the bears are given to children who have been hurt at school and need comfort until a parent can come; and Lee’s Place – which offers grief counseling (half of their clients are children). These children are especially thankful for the bears you give.
Letters from children who have received these bears in the past speak of the comfort and joy these bears bring. This is just one way that Trinity members serve in Tallahassee. Click here to more examples

Beyond Tallahassee

Trinity has a long history of reaching out to help others. In 2011, Trinity plans to partner with Solomon’s Porch to help improve the lives of the people of Guatemala. There is much excitement and preparations are under way to make this a very meaningful and effective mission. This is just one way that members of Trinity reach out to the people of the world. Click here to more examples.
