Friends of the Groom coming to Trinity

What is “Friends of the Groom?” Friends of the Groom is a professional theater company dedicated to communicating the Christian message in an entertaining and challenging format. The inter-denominational group is located in Cincinnati, Ohio and normally travels in teams of two or three. Since 1980, they have performed plays, led retreat weekends, and conducted workshops in thousands of locations from Anchorage to Athens. Many thanks to our Friends of Music ministry at Trinity for providing the funds for this special group to visit Trinity and lead is in a workshop, a Saturday night performance and in Sunday morning worship. Friday, February 17

Everyone is invited to Moor Hall on Friday night, February 17. We start with a potluck dinner at the church at 5:30 p.m. From 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., our three professionals will lead us in some unique multi-generational drama exercises. This will be a lighthearted, fun evening for all ages! You can just watch, or better yet, join in the fast-paced activities. Friends of the Groom sent descriptions of at least 10 activities…much like drama icebreakers!

Saturday, February 18

10:00 a.m.-noon: Tom, Jocelyn and Susan will lead a workshop covering a variety of topics. This is for all ages! Their “Beyond Bathrobes” workshop is described as follows:
“Those who come, will be invited to participate in a variety of drama and storytelling activities, including five ways to perform a story in church and using drama in worship and education. The workshop will also include techniques for bringing scripture alive in worship, along with practical information about where to find resources for Christian theatre and storytelling.” We will be looking for a few volunteers (multi-generational) to prepare a scripture tableaux as part of this workshop. No memorization required. These volunteers will present the scripture tableaux at all three morning services, February 19.

1:00-1:30 p.m.: All children in 3rd through 5th grades are encouraged to come to the sanctuary to prepare a skit. You will present “Crossing the Red Sea” at all three morning services, February 19. No memorization required.

1:30-4:30 p.m.: Those of you that signed up to present “Royal Visit” will practice in the sanctuary. You present “Royal Visit” at all three morning services on Sunday, February 19.

7:00 -8:00 p.m., “The Case of the Missing Bodies”
What would happen if Sam Spade, the detective from the Maltese falcon, met Simon Peter from the New Testament? Come See Friends of the Groom Theater Company as they perform Acts, chapter 12 in the style of a 1940s Humphrey Bogart detective movie.

Sunday, February 19

The theme for the morning services is “Dramatic Encounters With God.” Our three worship services will include 30-35 minutes of drama. Friends of the Groom will present some of it, and the groups practicing on Saturday will do the rest! See you there!
