Position Title: Director of Children’s Ministries
Functional Classification: Program Staff
Responsible to: Minister of Programs
Full-time or Part-time: Full-time
Minimum Qualifications: Must embrace Christian discipline and United Methodist doctrine and theology. Bachelor’s degree in Education, Christian Education or in an area of study related to childhood development and/or 5+ years of equivalent Children’s ministry related experience. Ability to create a vision for the children’s ministry, set goals, and strategically meet them. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead and foster teamwork in a positive atmosphere with staff, volunteers and parents.
General Duties and Responsibilities: The primary responsibility of the Director of Children’s Ministries shall be to plan, implement and lead a comprehensive Christian ministry, which will complement the ongoing ministry of Trinity UMC while encompassing the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being of children birth through fifth grade (ages 0-11) and their parents.
Specific Areas of Responsibility:
- Be informed about and supportive of the total ministry of the church.
- Direct Children’s Sunday Morning Programming –age 3 through 5th Grade
- Plan a comprehensive Sunday School program and select appropriate curriculum.
- Ensure curriculum is age-appropriate and teacher-friendly, edited to suit the needs of the children and volunteers, delivered in a timely and agreed upon schedule, and consistent Methodist theology.
- Recruit, schedule, train, and work with adult volunteers.
- Maintain a consistent presence during programs and services, supporting leaders as needed, interacting with parents, and observing for needs and improvement.
- Direct Mid-Week, Elementary Children’s Program –Grades K-5
- Plan a comprehensive program and select appropriate curriculum and activities.
- Recruit, schedule, train, and work with adult volunteers.
- Plan/Coordinate with the Music Director regarding the children’s choirs.
- Provide regular opportunities for Christian growth as individuals and as a community through recreation, fellowship and service activities.
- Direct Nursery/Childcare Program –Birth through 5th Grade
- Use appropriate procedures to acquire adequate and qualified childcare staff.
- Provide training, supervision and feedback for childcare staff.
- Coordinate with other areas of ministry to provide childcare for service, meetings, and other special events.
- Plan, Implement and Direct Special Events for children and their families –including, but not limited to:
- Vacation Bible School
- Easter Egg Hunt
- Teacher Appreciation Dinner
- Family Fun Nights
- Publicize Programs and Events
- Establish and execute a consistent communication plan with parents, utilizing social media, digital and print forms.
- Coordinate with the Director of Communications to ensure the church is informed of Children’s Ministry programs and events.
- Submit bulletin announcements giving relevant information on upcoming events.
- Submit news articles and photos for publication in the Monthly Tidings newsletter.
- Fiscal Responsibility
- In consultation with appropriate groups, prepare and submit a yearly budget for areas of responsibility.
- Maintain a standard of careful stewardship, accurate budgeting, and consistent use of finance approval and reporting systems.
- Monitor/Maintain expenditures in these areas, submit charges, receipts and check requests to Comptroller.
- Record, deposit and disperse all monies collected through the appropriate accounts.
- Maintaining Children’s Rosters
- Contact new or visiting families.
- Maintain membership rolls of all regularly scheduled programming.
- Notify church office of membership rolls, changes of address, etc.
- Establish and implement methods of contacting inactive children and families to build relationships and promote involvement.
- Seek continuing education in areas relevant to Children’s Ministry.
- Attend Church Staff and Church Council meetings, as well as any other meetings at the request of the Senior Pastor.
Pay Range: $40,000-$45,000, dependent on experience.
