BFC Ministry Mission: Serving God Through – Self, Church, and Community and Always Being Faithful

  • By maintaining our body, we are better able to physically serve.
  • By finding ways to be involved at church, we can serve God by helping one another
  • By reaching outside the walls of our church, we can serve our community and world

Maintaining a strong body prepares us to better serve God. “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

BFO (Becoming Fit Outdoors) – Walking/Hike Group

Do you enjoy the outdoors? Come be free.  Walk and Talk. Get to know your walking buddies as you nourish your body with fresh air and exercise.

During the winter BFO will walk on Thursday evenings at Cascades Park in downtown Tallahassee.  Plan to meet in the parking lot across Suwannee Street from DOT near the park. The first group starts at 6:15 pm and a second group follows at 6:30 pm to allow more time for participants to arrive safely after work.  Participants may walk/hike at their own pace. All walkers will be paired with partners or small groups based upon their pace, so no one walks alone.  Both groups walk in circles around the park.  It is well lit and appears to be very safe.

Come meet new friends. Bring your family. Bring your pets (on a leash).  Bring a water bottle, towel if you want and wear comfortable shoes and clothes. It has been a lot of fun to walk while getting to know all the wonderful participants. COME JOIN US on Thursday evenings.

Registration is $10 per 5-6 week session and may be made through Lay Academy or by emailing [email protected]. Suggested donation is $3 per week if not registered through Lay Academy. All funds go toward needs of the exercise ministry.

A Small Donation Goes a Long Way

Since the beginning of the BFC Ministry in September 2008, our mission has been to support community service projects while Becoming Fit at Church.  To date over $63,000 has been raised from class donations. One hundred percent of the donations to BFC go back into the local or world-wide community. In the past a small portion helped to provide funds for Health Wellness Ministry programs such as the annual Health Fair or toward purchases of new exercise equipment. Registration fees to BFO through Lay Academy now are used to help meet some of these program needs.

Funds have benefited the following community projects: NIMS Middle School, Refuge House, Hope Community, Allen House, the Trinity Community Garden, the Trinity Medical Mission Team, scholarships toward mission trips for FSU students, assistance to local families in time of need, Hats for the Homeless, Veteran’s Village, our sister church in Cuba, UMCOR, and HEO, Madison Youth Ranch, Ronald McDonald House, Second Harvest, Socks, Sacks & Suppers, Capital City Youth Services, teacher appreciation, Kearney Center, Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, Capital Regional Medical Center, and earthquake and hurricane relief.
