Can You Touch a Prayer?
Can you pull it close and feel its comfort? You can if it’s part of a Prayer Quilt from our Prayers & Squares Quilt Ministry. Our Prayer Quilts are more than just colorful, comforting blankets – the warmth they bring comes from the prayers that are tied into each knot. Quilts are available free for members and friends.
When a quilt is requested, it is available for prayer during worship services. After a prayer is said for the recipient, a knot is made in one of the ties that cover the quilt to represent the prayer that has been said.
Once the quilt is full of prayers, it is given to the recipient, so that they can be covered in prayer during their crisis.
Please call the church office (850-222-1120) to request a prayer quilt.
Prayers & Squares International
Trinity is chapter member #351 of Prayers & Squares International, an interfaith outreach organization that combines the gift of prayer with the gift of a hand-tied quilt. Our purpose is to promote prayer through the use of quilts. While we try to make the quilts cheerful and attractive, “It’s not about the quilts, it’s all about the prayers.”
Contact: Toni Hale or Beth Perry for more information.
Volunteers Needed
Specific Responsibilities: You can make an entire quilt or help with any of the stages:
- Washing & ironing fabric
- Cutting out a pattern
- Sewing the top
- Making the quilt “sandwich”
- Sewing the bindings
- Sewing the ties (by hand)
- Saying a prayer for the recipient
Some of our members specialize in one or two steps and quilts are passed from one member to another for completion.
Time Commitment: We meet the 4th Monday of each month in Moor Hall from 5:30 – 6:30 P.M. Most of the work on the quilts is done at home. It takes approximately 8 hours to complete an entire quilt from start to finish and the timeframe for completion is usually flexible.
Skills Needed:
Basic sewing experience is helpful. If you’re a beginner, we have a basic quilting handbook available and are ready to teach new members the basics of quilting.
If you don’t want to sew a quilt, we can use your help in washing, ironing, and cutting out a pattern.
It’s quick and easy to learn how to sew the prayer ties onto a finished quilt which is done at most meetings.
Supplies Needed: Most members provide their own materials and there is usually a good supply of fabric at the church. It helps to have your own sewing machine, cutting board, rotary cutter, and ruler.
Donations Needed: Estimated cost for supplies to make one quilt is approx. $50 and shipping costs are extra if the quilt must be mailed. We average giving away two quilts per month. Monetary donations to this ministry are greatly appreciated.

Meet some of the people who make the Prayer Quilt Ministry possible here at Trinity. Trinity has provided 230 prayer quilts to individuals who have had a special need to feel God’s presence in their lives. The prayer quilts are a great way for us to share God’s love. Many of the recipients were deeply touched by the outpouring of love that comforts them in these prayer quilts. Well done, good and faithful servants!
