The Mission of the Tallahassee Green Faith Alliance is to be
an interfaith group open to all who are interested in leading their spiritual community on the path to sustainability. We share ideas, successes, challenges, and encouragement to grow the Green Faith movement in Tallahassee. We proactively seek to connect with and support diverse communities suffering from environmental injustice. We follow environmental news and create political will for our leaders to make choices that will protect people suffering from environmental injustice.
Members of the Alliance meet every two months at different church sites to discuss the achievements of each church/interested area. Our meetings are faith-based and follow Biblical teachings of preserving our earth and our habitats. We share ideas on how each community can encourage sustainability and become sensitive in using safe products.
What do we mean by sustainable successes? Success is achieved when the congregation’s awareness is heightened, and each member of our congregation thinks of ways to decrease our carbon footprint, save dollars, and respect and care for all of God’s creatures. Energy audits are conducted, LED lights are installed, water consumption decreases, trash is composted, all plastic product use is discontinued, organic gardens are planted, and air quality in Leon County improves. Step-by-step, we can make a difference in combating climate issues.
A program entitled “Creation Care” is designed for children to help increase their awareness of environmental challenges. A curriculum has been developed and successfully used by other churches.
Lay Academy, winter session (2020), will feature Trinity’s work as well as climate issues in the Big Bend and the globe.
“When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he [or she] finds it attached to the rest of the World.”
“The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those that dwell therein.”
