Welcome College & University Students!

Each August, Trinity United Methodist Church looks forward to the return of college students to our area. Our church is in downtown Tallahassee, very close to FSU, TCC, and FAMU. We invite you to make us your church home. With a close connection with the music departments at the local schools, you may find within these pages a place to share your musical gifts and talents. We hope you will consider joining us! The best time to join these groups is September of each year. Call our office at 850-222-1120 for more information.

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir is the flagship music group of the church, averaging 45 members. Trinity invites adults and college students to join the choir and offers many opportunities for solos, duets, and other small vocal ensembles. Sacred classical music is a large part of our diet, including anthems by celebrated composers such as Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Faure, and Rutter. The choir usually presents a major choral work once a year. The Chancel Choir sings every Sunday and also at special worship services including the 8:00 p.m. Christmas Eve service, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and Music Ministry Sunday. The group practices on Wednesdays from 7:30 – 8:45 p.m. in the choir room. Contact the office at 850-222-1120.

Trinity Ringers

Trinity’s adult handbell group is called Trinity Ringers. This is a musically advanced group and you must be able to read music to become a member. Trinity Ringers practice on Wednesdays, 6:15-7:15 p.m. in the handbell room (room 218). For more information, please contact the office at 850-222-1120.

College/Career Handbells

Trinity’s College/Career Handbells is the perfect group to join if you enjoy & read music and are a young adult! Handbells practice each Sunday from 6:15-7:15 p.m., in the handbell room (Room 218). Handbell activities follow the local college schedules with a September through April season. The group will ring five to six times each season. For more information, please contact the office at 850-222-1120.

Heavenly Chimes

Heavenly Chimes meet on Thursdays 1:45-2:45 p.m. in room 218 (handbell room). We enjoy some great fun and fellowship along with making some music together with these beautiful instruments. In the process we get some healthy mental and physical exercise. Ability to read music is necessary. In addition to performing at our worship services, this group also travels to retirement communities to share with their residents. Joining is easy: Come to one of our rehearsals or contact the office at 850-222-1120.

Steel Bands

Instruments were purchased in August 2010, and in September, we started Trinity’s first steel band, choosing the name Trinity Pans of Praise. Six months later, Sacred Pans of Trinity was formed. Each group has six members, plus a drummer. Our main focus is providing music for morning worship services. March 31 and April 28 2012 marked the first times these groups ventured outside our church building for performances!

Ability to read music is a must for these groups. We meet on Sundays, 3:45-4:45 p.m. for Sacred Pans, and 5:00-6:00 p.m. for Pans of Praise. Talented middle school and high school students are invited to participate as well as adults. Every other year, a children’s steel band meets from September through December as part of the NETkids program on Wednesday afternoons. For more information, please contact the office at 850-222-1120.
